Getting to Know Curious Crows

Did you know crows are considered songbirds? They may not have a song to sing but they are members of the songbird family. This is news to me. They live up to 30 years, mate for life and have very strong family ties. Offspring often stay with the parents for several years and assist them during breeding season, like good older siblings. If you want to see an amazing three minute video illustrating how smart crow are click here . I’m not sure I could have solved that puzzle as quickly.

September show at Abend Gallery

As I chose the birds to paint for my upcoming show at Abend Gallery I was reminded of the many crows I watched when I lived in Carpinteria, California. One day while walking in the Carpinteria Marsh I came across these two, (see below). They seemed to be either waiting for me to leave or were wondering if I had snacks.

Crows are very curious and have big personalities. When I see them I can’t help but imagine the conversations they’re having. These two are definitely plotting something. Something daring and top secret.
